Identifying Features
- Habit: Massive evergreen with columnar trunk, the world’s largest trees by volume

- Bark: Extremely thick (up to 90cm), spongy, fire-resistant, reddish-brown
- Cones: Egg-shaped, woody, remain on tree for many years
- Distinguishing: Most massive tree species; requires fire for regeneration
