Leaves: Needles in dense clusters on short shoots, or spirally on long shoots
Bark: Dark gray, deeply fissured and scaly with age
Cones: Large, barrel-shaped, erect on branches, disintegrating at maturity
Distinguishing: Clustered needles; cones break apart on tree (like Abies)
